Sustainable fisheries, aquaculture and plastic 3R strategy development in Gaza Strip and West Bank

Project Description: This project focused on analyzing the plastic value chain and creating a comprehensive 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) strategy for the Palestinian Occupied Territories of Gaza and the West Bank. The work combined primary data collection—including key informant interviews, surveys, and workshops—with a detailed review of existing national and local policies, ongoing initiatives, and relevant international and regional best practices. The findings supported the development of a needs assessment and a detailed plastic value chain analysis (PVCA). Stakeholder engagement played a central role, involving consultations with government bodies such as the Ministry of Local Government, as well as public and private sector representatives, including recycling businesses. Based on this analysis, the strategy outlines practical recommendations and interventions aimed at improving governance, supporting the implementation of the 3R approach, and mitigating the long-term environmental and economic impacts of plastic pollution.
